Generating neurotrauma research ideas

Seven workshops, run by the National Trauma Research Institute,
provided a forum for the development of research ideas that could
be conducted within the framework of the 2012 - 2015 neurotrauma
research strategy.
Professor Niki Ellis, CEO of ISCRR, said the workshops were the
first opportunity for ISCRR to employ its innovative collaborative
research model with members of the neurotrauma research
community.
"This model will see ISCRR work directly with TAC's research
partners to define relevant research questions, coordinate research
and translate research into actionable outcomes," Professor Ellis
said.
Earlier this year the TAC appointed ISCRR to manage its
neurotrauma research program and the two organisations have now
produced a draft neurotrauma research strategy, which draws on an
innovative environmental scan conducted by the National Trauma
Research Institute in early 2011.
"The workshop themes reflected the TAC research priorities
outlined in the draft research strategy. Practically this will mean
far greater engagement with the range of neurotrauma research
organisations through the life of research projects, from concept
stage to completion," Professor Ellis said.
"Ultimately this will lead to a better uptake of research
findings and improved recovery and independent outcomes for TAC
clients with spinal or brain injuries will improve."
