The prevention of work disability recurrences and
recommendations on how to prevent the overuse of services will be
the focus of a new Early Career Fellowship awarded
by ISCRR.
Dr Janneke Berecki-Gisolf, Senior Research Fellow at the Monash
Injury Research Institute (MIRI) has received the ISCRR Fellowship
to complete a three year study investigating the outcomes of
compensated injury in Victoria.
Dr Berecki-Gisolf's research will investigate individual and
system level factors that contribute to injury outcomes, including
information on chronic disease.
She said the Fellowship would provide an opportunity to further
her research on the impact of pharmaceuticals and chronic disease
on injury outcomes.
"The fellowship will allow me to develop a line of research
around health service use, medications and return to work after
compensated injury," Dr Berecki-Gisolf said.
"Short projects let you take one step, but in three years you
can cover a lot of distance."
Dr Berecki-Gisolf is a medical doctor from the Netherlands with
a PhD in Physiology. She first came to Australia in 2007 and worked
as a post-doctoral fellow for the Australian Longitudinal Study on
Women's Health at the University of Queensland for two years.
ISCRR is a joint venture between WorkSafe Victoria, the
Transport Accident Commission and Monash University. It works
closely with policy makers, regulators and the research community
to conduct and commission research into workplace injury and
illness prevention, compensation practice, health and vocational
rehabilitation.
