Migrant workers form a vital part of Australian workplaces, yet they face complex workplace health and safety challenges. In 2024, SafeWork NSW reported multiple serious incidents involving migrant and multicultural workers, demonstrating that we need to better understand and address the risks they face.
This is why ISCRR is working closely with the Migrant Workers’ Centre (MWC) on new research into the workplace experiences of migrant and multicultural workers. This is not just a one-off project; it is the beginning of an ongoing partnership built on listening, respect and collaboration.
The MWC is deeply connected to migrant worker communities as they assist them to address a range of problems they encounter in workplaces. They will support ISCRR in co-designing research, collecting data, offering multicultural and multilingual insights, and bringing community voices into every stage of the research. They will also co-author reports and publications, ensuring the findings truly reflect lived experiences.
This work is proudly supported by WorkSafe Victoria, who recognise the importance of prevention and the need to better protect migrant and multicultural workers. Their support highlights the value of research that is grounded in community perspectives and focused on building safer workplaces for all.
By combining ISCRR’s research expertise with MWC’s community knowledge, we hope to deliver insights that lead to safer, fairer workplaces for migrant and multicultural workers across Australia.
