We are proud to share a new publication authored by ISCRR’s Olivia Crivari in Frontiers in Education, the first published paper of her career as a researcher:
“It’s something you can’t wash off; you carry it with you”: A qualitative study into teachers’ experiences of vicarious trauma symptoms during the COVID-19 pandemic in Victoria, Australia.

The study explores how Victorian teachers navigated the emotional toll of supporting students and families during some of the world’s longest lockdowns. Many teachers found themselves absorbing their students’ distress, blurring the boundaries between work and home life, and experiencing symptoms consistent with vicarious trauma.

The research highlights an urgent need for greater recognition of the emotional demands placed on teachers, and for more trauma-informed approaches within the education system to safeguard their wellbeing.

ISCRR congratulates lead author Olivia Crivari and co-authors Dr Sarah Oxford, Carmen Schroder, Professor Sarah Anderson, and Dr Janine McMillan on this important contribution to understanding how we can better support those who teach and care for our children and young people.
